A recognisable cottage to those crossing The Spit Bridge in Seaforth, this house was once the residence of the bridge keeper. Our clients sought to reinvigorate the building with new life but retain the essence of its charming character.
More was made of the upper level by creating a new raised roofline to house the family bedrooms. This zinc-wrapped addition sits above the original stone and masonry building. External entertainment areas are better connected to the interiors by new glazed connections and living areas that run between both.
A challenging construction site, the house is accessible by either an inclinator or boat and most materials were delivered by barge with a crane lift. The house sits beautifully at the foot of the cliff to Seaforth with a close connection to the harbour. The interiors were designed to convey the calm sense of tranquillity by the water.
