This project in Point Piper involved a substantial reconstruction of a 1930’s Spanish Mission house on Sydney Harbour. The building had undergone many minor refurbishments over the years, and we sought to unify the various spaces with a consistent treatment of materiality and detail. Polished render and reclaimed natural timber were used as the core materials to unify the interiors and create a natural flow of space.
The interior architecture was developed in a sculptural manner where the spaces were opened for daylight to play on the interior forms. The house had previously felt dark in many areas and by creating double height atriums, oversized doorways and organic forms, the light is now an integral part of the interior experience.
